Owner at Axcelerate
Tim Johnson is the Owner of Axcelerate, an axe throwing venue based in Maine. Before entering the attractions industry, Tim spent years as a medical device engineer, sitting at a desk until he decided he needed something more interesting and more local.
He first opened a parkour gym for kids before pivoting to axe throwing. Axcelerate stands out for its white-glove experience, a custom-made digital target system with novel games, and a strong focus on company team bonding events. The venue also features outdoor space for added diversity of experience.
Tim recently launched SMAX, a digital target system that can be used for both darts and axes. He is also developing new game formats including an escape room game, a smash room game, and a first-person Dungeon Crawl game for the digital target system.
Tim has a long list of hobbies and entrepreneurial pursuits: he is a lifelong martial artist, juggler, musician, traveler, drone race pilot, and unicycler. He has also written children’s books, painted doorstops, designed wooden toys and board games, worked as a web designer and martial arts instructor, and worked with Alex Hormozi at Gym Launch and Acquisition.com in Las Vegas, where he developed a deep love of sales and systems thinking.
